How long does the hiring process
take?
The time from start to finish for the entire hiring process varies,
depending on the individual.
The first phase of testing can generally be completed in four to
five weeks. This first phase of testing consists of a written test,
physical agility test, and an oral interview. Upon successfully
passing these three tests, you will be placed on a list based on
your overall score.
The second phase is the background investigation. Candidates will
be chosen based on their list ranking and will be invited to the
background phase. The background investigation is dependent on how
involved the applicant’s work history, residence history,
reference history, and general information is. Out-of-state applicants
take longer to process. The background phase can generally be completed
in two to four months.
A conditional job offer will be made if the applicant successfully
completes phase one and phase two of the testing process.
The third phase is medical and psychological testing. This is generally
completed in four weeks.
The final hiring phase is an oral interview with the Police Chief
and Command Staff.
NOTE: The above times are estimates only and will vary depending
on the individual.
This estimate of time does not include Police Academy Training,
training with a Field Training Officer, and a probationary time

What are some important tips that
will help me prepare for this process?
You will be scrutinized throughout the entire process.
Be on time! Tardiness will not be tolerated. If you show up late
or fail to show up to any of the scheduled tests and meetings you
will be disqualified from continuing with the hiring process.
Always look presentable. Be well groomed and neat in appearance.
The background investigators are always looking at you and how you
present yourself.
You must be physically fit. The physical agility course is physically
demanding and requires upper and lower body strength. You must be
able to run, jump, climb, drag a 165 lb dummy, and have sufficient
grip strength to complete this phase.
Be mentally prepared. This is a long and strenuous process. Make
sure your personal life is in order. This process can strain even
the best of relationships.
